Who stole the garlic?

I made spaghetti sauce today.  I had help in the form of two four footed helpers.  Their sort of help consists of stepping on my toes, standing between the counter and me, blocking access to pots and pans, and stealing three cloves of garlic.  I turned my back for one minute and the garlic POOF disappeared.

“Alright you guys, who stole it?  Who stole my garlic?”

Two Bull Terriers did their best to look innocent.  Patty ran for her crate and hid in the back.  Guilty or not she always does that.  She doesn’t do confrontations.  Gavin danced around the kitchen sassy barking at me.  He always does that when it’s near dinner time.  I wasn’t getting any answers.

I had a good idea who did it.  Gavin doesn’t often put his paws on the counter edge and he’s not quite tall enough to snitch anything from there.  However to be fair I smelled his breath.  “Phew, stinky breath but no garlic on it.”

I went to Patty’s crate and leaned down.  I didn’t have to smell her breath.  Fumes of garlic panted from the back.  I didn’t have the heart to scold her.

  1. maybe she was scared of vampires lol

  2. {Giggle} Could be, what with all those movies DH was watching on SyFy channel.

  3. Could you have been in my house? It sounds so familiar…
Last year we grew cherry tomatoes on the patio and only harvested a handful; it could have been more, but the dogs were so much faster than me.

  4. EmmaLou, Golden Destroyer wouldn’t get near garlic if you paid her. She also hates citrus and if I’m feeling devilish and happen to be peeling an orange or tangerine I’ll let her get close and I’ll start to peel it and the citrus stuff hits her nose and she gets very disgusted with me. I just giggle. Fortunately I don’t do this often as it’s mean of me. But then again…if she sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong… I heard that garlic was bad for dogs but apparently it has no ill effects on yours. Just keep them away from grapes and raisins and of course chocolate. Too funny!

  5. hubbaloo–Mine will steal tomatoes off the vine too and they love to munch on the mint in the garden.

Linda–Never ever would my dogs get near chocolate, raisins, or grapes. Onions are another big no no. Garlic however, helps keep fleas away. If you look at brewers yeast for dogs it often has garlic in it.

  6. Hahahahaha, I guessed Patty right away. I don’t believe garlic is toxic to dogs but I’ve heard onion is. In fact there were 4 items, onions, chocolate (poor doggies), raisins and grapes mentioned on an animal planet episode years ago. Onions definitely stood out and raisins. Grapes? I guess because they are dried and made into raisins. I guess the drying out process doesn’t get rid of the toxicity. There may be another item on that list but it’s not garlic. I cooked spaghetti sauce all the time with garlic of course, and my dogs and cats all got their fair share with no ill effects. Now if Patty starts acting like a vampire better give her more garlic, lol.
