Garbled messages

Our answering machine is doing its level best to die.  It’s not as though it gets a lot of use, but today it proved it is on the way out.  When a person’s voice sounds worse than Donald Duck’s it’s time to get a new answering machine.  A doctor’s secretary left a message and I think I understood one word in four.  It’s a good thing DH heard the message earlier and had already called them back.

We use the standard message that comes with the machine.  There have been times where I was tempted to put some not so very nice messages on there.  ‘If you’re trying to sell me something I don’t want or need, hang up.’  ‘If you’ve at one time or another screwed us over, kiss my a$$.’  ‘If you are a credit card company trying to get us to try your card at a new low rate, up yours, we don’t want it.’  Those are the more tame ones I would’ve recorded.

What is the out-going message on your machine?  Is it the machine standard one or have you recorded a ‘special’ message?

  1. For a while I decided to go with an abstract message. A quote from Neon-Genesis: Evangelion. “Sunny days make you happy. Rainy days make you gloomy.” The benefit of this was that people who didn’t know me just hung up and everyone else started their message with “When are you going to put a proper message on this machine”.
Now I just tell people to leave a message.

  2. Freas’s answering machine. You know what to do.

  3. My land line voicemail is the computer voice that came with the phone because I’m too lazy to change it and it’s fun to hear people say, I’m not sure if I’m calling the right number” — I’m evil that way. A long time ago when the tv ad was “reach out and touch someone” I put a snarky voicemail message out that said “if you’re selling something, reach out and touch someone else.” Devoted Spouse really didn’t like that so i deleted it – he can be so not fun at times. I actually figured out how to record a message on my new smart phone (joy) but I just mumble the mundane “hi leave a message and I’ll get back to you” nonsense. So unoriginal. But why encourage them? I’m paying for these calls.
