Updates and a Happy Birthday wish

Record heat here today and it was far from pleasant.  Normally I enjoy summer but we’ve had two major heat waves already and it’s barely into July.  We are going to have more records broken this week according to the weather reports.  If I wanted to live in the south I would, but I don’t.

My neighbor finished painting the shed today and it looks brand new.  All is painted except for the doors, which we told him to leave alone.  DH wants to straighten out some dents that he put in them and then we’ll paint them.

Happy Birthday Chuck!  Hope you have a nice birthday, Sweetie!  Our dear old friend Chuckles has tacked on another year today.

On a gardening note: I found three little watermelons on the vines today.  The cucumbers are getting larger another week or two and I might have some in a salad.  I harvested more banana peppers.  There are a few nice patty pan squash coming along, finally.  No cantaloupes yet, the one or two I thought we might have died teensy.  I’m guessing they weren’t properly pollinated could be because the male and female flowers were out of sync but they seem to be blooming together now.  I hope that means we will have fruit to enjoy.  There are now dozens of green tomatoes on the tomato plants, yippee!

  1. It’s been hot here too. I was worried about painters today and sent them home early. Don’t need heatstroke. Fence can wait a little longer. Good for you on garden – ours is the worst ever. Between my back & Devoted Spouse being too busy – it’s just one big weed patch. Couple tomatoes and the peppers aren’t growing at all. I’m gonna dig it up if my back will allow. Painters asst did landscaping so he’s gonna help me rearrange it into a more workable garden for me to use – as in raised bed so I don’t have to bend so much. Sucks to get old. Happy birthday Chuck.

Getting older isn’t for wimps. When you raise the bed and replant tomaotes bury banana peels under the plants. Mine are huge! I’m glad our neighbor finished the shed when he did, it is far too hot to be out there working.

  2. Good news on the garden – I’m jealous. Our yard is bereft of Bees, or any other pollinater so our tomatoes are lush and vigorous but fruit free, our zucchini (a reliable overproducer) appears sterile, the Lemon tree is just leafy. Our garden helps the grocery budget, but not this year, so although I’m jealous I wish you a bountiful and healthy harvest – enjoy your garden.

Sorry to hear your garden is berft of bounty. G and I bought the same tomato plants at the same place and hers aren’t doing much. Very strange.
