Own up

Is it just me or is anyone else completely bugged about how celebrities get away with breaking the law?  If Every-Day-Joe-Blow pulled any of this rehab instead of standing before a judge for sentencing crap, you know darned well the cops would have him in cuffs before he drew a second breath.

Celebrities are only people who have more money and press than the average person has.  They are not above the law.  When they break the law, they should serve the full term given to them by a judge.  Fame is not and should not be a get out of jail free card.  In the case of some famous people, I think I’ll add ‘grow the hell up’ to the mix.

I don’t care who you are, own up and make payment.  If it is jail, serve the time, if it is fines write the checks.  Did the judge order community service?  Do it.

What does this teach the young people?  Do you want your children or grandchildren to look up to famous people who have no respect for our laws?

  1. I think you may be chewing on the wrong end of the stick. The only reason we know about these people is because of the media. However, it is the judge who is doing the sentencing, not the celebrity. If the judge is influenced by the celebrity then that person has no business being a judge.

Plus, as you said, the celebrities get the press, but an ever increasing number of people are being sentenced to rehabs instead of prison due to the pressure to reduce prison populations. This is clearly evident in the incredible increase of rehab facilities in the last ten years. Even some stock buying rags are saying this is a ‘bull’ market in the midst of a slump.

Granted not everyone going to rehab is sentenced there by a judge, but there is a strong trend to that kind of sentencing nationwide.

In the end, the decision is from the judge who may or may not be inappropriately rewarded for his or her decision.

One young female star, who I won’t mention the name of because I refuse to add to her celebrity, put herself into rehab to avoid her judge imposed 90 day jail sentence. She’s screaming she won’t spend any time in jail and this is her second offense. In my opinion she should be dragged from the rehab in cuffs and do her entire 90 days with no time off for ‘good behavior.’

    • That may be your opinion, but it still is the judge’s decision. He has total control over where she is and she can not avoid jail by putting herself in rehap without the judge agreeing to it.

For one thing the rehab wouldn’t allow it to happen since they could lose their license if she were declared in contempt, or even a fugitive. It all goes back to whatever influences the judge. He could have her dragged out of there and made to serve if he wanted to. He doesn’t.

As far as the public knowing what she is screaming, that is the responsibilty of the media. They don’t have to report on her, but they do. Even the judge can’t stop them.

I’m not going to go into why I dislike the media. 😉 I could be cutting my own throat there.

  2. Ok, I know who you are referring to, LOL. As for rehab versus jail time, I don’t have any statistics to back me up so this will be purely opinion. I believe rehab is a joke. Granted it will be successful for some individuals, however the majority of those in rehab tend to enjoy the life they are living no matter how wrong or illegal it may be. They will go thru the motions to satisfy the courts and then go right back out and repeat the same offense or try something more daring. Recidivism is an issue the courts deal with every day, and it is so hard to make a good call on who will benefit and who won’t. I don’t think it’s an issue of which is better, rehab or jail time, they both have their benefits and drawbacks, however, if rehab doesn’t work initially then imho the next offense definitely should be jail time, no exceptions.

Too many people get a slap on the wrist and go right back out and do it all over again. Some hire good defense attorneys and get their wrists slapped time after time and never learn their lesson. Next thing you know, they’re in jail for murder. :$

Some people, especially celebs need to be brought back down to earth. This little gal achieved stardom at a pretty young age. She can’t handle the attention that goes along with celebrity status as shown by her drinking and her temper tantrum with the judge. I think rehab for her would be a waste of time, myself, and the judge should impose his own sentence on her. Not based on what she did initially but the subsequent behavior. She needs to be zapped back into reality.

Oh yeah, that gal NEEDS a reality check and maybe she’ll gain some maturity, which, somehow I doubt she ever will otherwise.

  3. Nah,
As far as I’m concerned, you dish the media and you get a fan club.

    Hehehe!

  4. I think we’re all sick of it – but that’s how our society works unfortunately. We put these celebrities up on a pedestal and treat them differently and it sends a horrible message to our kids. I think the fault is entirely our own and until people become less captivated by someone who happens to have a day job that involves acting, we will continue to see this nonsense. Too many meltdowns are being blown up by the media so they can get extra press time. This Mel Gibson nonsense saddens me terribly and the constant overanalyzing by pseudo-experts has to stop. I’ve pretty much just stopped watching news altogether. It just upsets me. I’d rather concentrating on finding ways to bring rays of sunshine to the world, one person at a time… (((hugs)))

Unfortunately, pseudo-experts are found in abundance. 🙄

    Keep bringing rays of sunshine!
