I need to diet on the heart smart diet

It seems to me that the heart smart changes in my diet have done nothing except put weight on me.   How heart smart can that be?

I do believe that fruits, whole grains, and oatmeal like to migrate to my stomach and boobage.  My fat loves the heart smart diet and I am not amused…

It’s time to change again and this time go for what works in taking off the weight and controlling my cholesterol.

Now if I can only find my old hand written diet that I had years ago.  I managed to take off weight on that one with no problem.  It’s somewhere in this house…

  1. It has nothing to do with what foods you eat, it has to do with calories consumed vs. calories burned. Eat more calories than you burn and you gain weight, no matter what food you eat.
Here’s an easy to follow diet for you: eat anything you want, just cut back on the size of the portions you eat. You won’t feel deprived of any foods you like and you will lose weight. It won’t come off fast (you shouldn’t lose more than a pound a week anyway), but it will stay off.

If I cut my portions back any more I might as well stop eating altogether. 😦

    • I’m not gonna touch that. I’m not. I’m not.

Good! It wouldn’t be smart right now. This whole weight gain business is enough to make me start smoking again.

  2. One suggestion I have is to eat smaller portions of your heart smart diet which will help your metabolism burn fat. Five or six smaller meals rather than the normal three per day, has helped me lose weight. Course I’d be a lot lighter if I stuck to it (another good tip)…LOL

Also, try drinking more than 8 glasses of water a day, like 9 or 10 (after your coffee, of course). I did that as well and lost 20 pounds in about 2 months time.

I already do all this and am putting on the pounds…go fig.

  3. I used to do what Dave suggested…eat anything, just less of it. It worked great–40 years ago. Now that I’ve reached that mid life hump in my life. I still eat less but the calories say “No, no, no, I’m not going to leave, no matter what you do”.
Plus, it doesn’t help living with a parent who won’t change her eating habits. Yes, she gets Meals-on-Wheels which is formulated for her..low salt, no fried foods, etc. But have you seen that stuff? It looks totally unappetizing. Bland colors more often than not. Eight times out of ten she tries to pawn it off on me and then goes and eats something she shouldn’t….

The MIL hated Meals on Wheels, as for me, I think I’d rather starve than eat what they have to offer.
