Paper is to clutter as ….

I can clean off my desk, I can clear the kitchen table, however, they never stay paper free.  A single piece of paper becomes a magnet for many more.  Once that first paper hits the table or desk,  my clutter free area is doomed.

I swear the paper breeds faster than rabbits or mice.  My recycling bin is always full.

Is there some sort of scientific phenomena that explains this occurence?

How do you tame your paper?

  1. So true! I don’t know the answer 🙂

    cheers

It’s one of those unaswerable questions, I guess.

  2. I thought I had a partial answer. My recycling can is close to my mail box so I started sorting before I went in. /That way some of the clutter never got into the house. That worked until one day Scott, our mailman, saw me doing it. He immediately went into great dramatic sorrow about having done all the work of bringing mail to my house and there I was instantly throwing it away. I didn’t know him well then and thought he was serious. He wasn’t, but he sure missed a great adventure as an actor.

    LOL, I love it!

  3. I don’t. I struggle exactly as you do — clear off the kitchen table, turn around & it’s one huge mound of paper again. ACK!

I’ve heard suggestions to only deal with any particular piece of paper once — in other words, open up a piece of mail & then DO something with it right then, instead of laying it on the kitchen table (or wherever) to be dealt with later. Manana never comes, you know.

Sometimes I do that, but more often I’m busy at the moment & don’t even open the mail, much less deal with what’s inside it.

I have e-mail clutter for the same reason.

I need to be more ruthless about e-mail, & more organized about snail mail. Sure, the day I have nothing else to do, nothing else more interesting calling my name, the day I don’t have to work &/or have a sink full of dirty dishes that also didn’t get done for the same reasons. Look at them pigs going by the window in formation!

What pigs?! Where?! Oh, those pigs!

  4. Strange, I never got this post. Anyway, I have the same issues with paper. Like you said, they accumulate faster than rabbits. I’m so glad others have the same problem and it’s not just me.

Yes, knowing you’re not alone in this makes it easier to handle.
