Feminist? Damned right I am!

Someone on Facebook accused me of me being a feminist.  I told him, “Honey, my Daddy raised me as one because he loved me, my four sisters, my mother, my maternal and paternal grandmothers, and all of his sisters.  He wanted each woman to have the respect due her.  He wanted us to have every advantage a man has.  My Daddy always told us we could be whatever we wished.  He said to reach for the stars and beyond.  He was proud of us.  He was proud of my rebel spirit.”

Please, go ahead and call me a feminist!  I find no shame in it, nothing derogatory, I revel in the name.

         One of my favorite quotes:

“We need to reclaim the word ‘feminism’. We need the word ‘feminism’ back real bad. When statistics come in saying that only 29% of American women would describe themselves as feminist – and only 42% of British women – I used to think, What do you think feminism IS, ladies? What part of ‘liberation for women’ is not for you? Is it freedom to vote? The right not to be owned by the man you marry? The campaign for equal pay? ‘Vogue’ by Madonna? Jeans? Did all that good shit GET ON YOUR NERVES? Or were you just DRUNK AT THE TIME OF THE SURVEY?”

  1. Most women who are opposed to feminism are opposed because they prefer love to respect. Being a rebel isn’t that good for finding a man. They want to revel in femininity, not masculinity.

The dating scene has rather changed in the past few decades. Men are much less willing to marry feminist women due to the trauma of divorce and feminist men are generally less confident, less assertive, and less attractive.

And your point is? I get both love and respect, my husband is a retired police officer–he’s not less assertive because he believes in women’s rights. Men who won’t date an independent, assertive women have no idea what they are missing. A woman can be feminine and a feminist. Why in the world would ‘finding a man’ be so important that one would give up one’s self respect and rights to do so?

  2. Self respect begets respect from others. And yes, love fits into that equation, too.

  3. Feminist and proud of it 😀
