Indulging myself for change…felt nice.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Some days you just have to do for yourself. Yesterday was one of those days for me. After my walk with Annie I stopped in at a friend’s shop and since we had the place to ourselves for a great deal of the time we spent it getting caught up on each others news. It’s been a while since I stopped in there.
I was a bit relieved to find The Curmudgeon up for a nap and the dogs sound asleep when I got home. I spent the time, until The Curmudgeon woke up, reading. It felt good to have some time for myself for a change.
No one suffered, The Curmudgeon and the pups had their dinners on time.

Reading the spam is a riot
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I am glad that even though Akismet marks something as spam, I still get a chance to read it.
You know it is spam when:
Someone comments that my page for comments on the Doggonedmysteries series has been an invaluable resource for their research. You know they didn’t read or even look at the post.
Someone writes that my post was brilliantly written, marvelously articulate and they are talking about a slide show, they didn’t look at the post.
Then there are the ones that go in the other direction and thoroughly insult you and your work. Most are poorly written and are easily spotted as ‘English is not even their third language.’
I find it disappointing when I check my page and there is no spam to read and give me a laugh. Yeah, I am weird.

Let the grilling and gardening begin.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The grill is clean! I am happily grilling our dinners again. Next would be to get the hammock stand set up. Yes, I am running very late this year. LOL!
What can I say, we had so much other stuff going on that I got way behind on getting things together here at home. It looks as though we are taking baby steps but getting there. Another thing to do is see if I can still find tomato, peppers, and eggplant for my pots. We’re a bit late on them too.
Dinner was grilled lemon & herb infused boneless chicken breasts served with veggies and a large salad with NY cheesecake for dessert. The Curmudgeon enjoyed it. Does anyone have any special grilling recipes they’d like to share?

Extra coffee…bonus!!!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It’s amazing what one can find lurking in the back of the kitchen cabinets. Every so often I’ll grab a flashlight, sit on the floor, and pull things out of my lower cabinets. I am often surprised. Last night I decided to do a cupboard purge. On the top shelf, I found a whole can of coffee, a can stuffed full of bags of assorted gourmet coffees, and a box of sweetener all of which had managed to travel to the back of the cupboard. All of which, I had completely forgotten about.
I found an unopened bag of coconut, powdered sugar, and a box of black tea bags in the back on the shelf below. I need to hit the other pantry shelves later today. I wonder what I’ll find there?
Why am I doing this purge? I found a can of tomato sauce in the one cupboard that had a use by date on it of 2009 the other night. Highly unusual in this house. I tend to rotate foodstuffs often but somehow missed that can.
After cleaning out the hoarded mess that was the MIL’s house for over a year, I swore my house will never come anywhere close to that. Yet, there it was, staring me in the face, a can of tomato sauce years past its expiration date. Yikes!
You all have a good one and check those dates!
Me buy clothes alone? Never!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
So, I admit it. I’m a real fashion disaster. That’s why I never go shopping for clothes alone. Friends never let the fashion impaired shop alone.
The other day I dragged G and Annie to the mall to help me buy jeans. Yes, I am even helpless in buying myself decent jeans. They were a great help because I came home with a pair of jeans and a pair of crop jeans.
Later I helped them both spend some money on themselves. Turn about is fair play, right?

Belling the cat doesn’t always work…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Many years ago we had a Siamese cat who should’ve been named Diana for her hunting skills. However, she was named Snoopy because she couldn’t resist checking everything out from her first day with us. She wore a bell and yet continued to gift us with many a dead animal. Snoopy did learn that killing birds brought nothing but disapproval from us so she restricted her hunting to small furry creatures.
When she stalked her prey you never heard that bell ring. Fagin’s juvenile crew of pick pockets had nothing on her keep-the-bell-from-ringing skill. That little seven pound cat could run like hell and keep the bell silent. You only heard that bell of hers if she wanted you to hear it.
I often observed her stalking some creature with the bell as silent as if she’d had a fifth paw to hold over it. Then when I’d call her she come running with bell making all sorts of noise as if we hadn’t seen her silent sneak. Once The Curmudgeon and I married, she came with me and became a house cat. That never stopped her from hunting–she kept our house mouse free until she died at a little over twenty years of age.
You all have a good one!
Breaking in the new neighbors…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Unfortunately, in this neighborhood where most of us own our homes, and have done so for over twenty years, we do have a couple of rental properties. These are owned by absentee landlords from another state. One such place is across the street and the turn-over is horrific.
The new neighbors moved in this week. So far they’ve had two extremely loud parties and tons of people who are determined to either park in our driveway or block it. Neither goes over well with us. With both The Curmudgeon and me having medical conditions, we need the ability to leave on a moment’s notice. I don’t have time to hunt down some stranger who has parked in front of or in our driveway.
I just had a discussion with one person about not blocking our driveway. I told them that the ‘free getting to know you’ period was over and the next car to park in or block the driveway will have the police called on them and the gift of a ticket. I hope they got the message.
I would never dream of blocking or parking in someone’s private driveway but then I was raised to respect other people and their property. Sigh, it seems to be a lost art these days.

Oh, for heaven’s sake, shave already.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I don’t know about you, but I have grown very tired of the five o’clock or later shadow look on men. Gentlemen, either shave or don’t, but if you don’t at least trim that dirty looking mess on your face into some form of neatness. I prefer a clean-shaved look.
Truth be told, I’ve never been overly fond of The Curmudgeon’s hairy pet that crouches on his upper lip. It tickles when we kiss. It stores food at times–not a pleasant sight, and as it has grayed it really lost its looks.
Who told actors that the grungy faced look was attractive? Maybe once in a while but it isn’t a look that wins the ladies. I don’t know too many women who love men who wear brambles on their faces. Sigh, I sure do miss seeing handsome, cleanly shaved men. Will Hollywood ever bring them back? One can hope.
