What drives you bonkers?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
This time of year drives me bonkers. I can’t stand the constant drone of Christmas carols. If I hear one more have a happy holiday I may go postal. Speaking of postal, I really don’t need a gazillion catalogues. I don’t buy Christmas gifts.
Rude people drive me up a wall. This is the season where they seem to come out in droves. I’m so glad I no longer work retail. It was always a challenge to smile at customers all day when they were so very rude.
We won’t go into many of the other things that drive me crazy, the list is far too long.
What drives you bonkers?

Wanted: new heart smart recipes
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I am still experimenting with new recipes. The Curmudgeon has so far only liked about half of what I’ve tried from the heart healthy cookbooks I bought.
Help, I am quickly running out of recipes. I downloaded another fifteen free cookbooks to my Kindle and only about half of those are heart healthy.
Do you have any heart smart recipes you love and men tolerate well? If so, please post them in my comments section to share with me and other heart patients.

I’m glad you’re okay
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Things were in a bit of an uproar at Chez Doggonedmysteries. I was very worried about a dear friend of mine who lives in another state. Between my pacing, dialing her phone, and worrying out loud, The Curmudgeon and the pups knew that Mom was on the edge.
Finally, I couldn’t take it any longer and I looked up her local PD. They had four districts and I had no idea what one to contact, but they also had an e-mail address. I e-mailed them asking them to check on on her welfare.
To my great relief they did check on her and a nice officer called me to say she was in the hospital, doing well, and should be home soon.
WHEW!

Morning? Nope.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I got a call from the place that delivers meats to us. They wanted to make an appointment to come and take our order.
“So, do we set an appointment for 9 a.m.?” She asked.
I laughed. “I don’t do mornings.”
“How about 1:00?”
I laughed again. “How about Two? At one I’m barely on my second cup of coffee. By two I’d be awake enough to do an order.”
“And can we make it on Monday?”
“Nope. Let’s put it off a week.”
She sighs, “Okay. How about December 4th?”
“Perfect. See you at two then.”
Wait until she sees the complete change in our order. I pretty sure there will be some tearing of hair.

When I buy a new car…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The Curmudgeon says when we sell the MIL’s house I will get a new car. I’ve always had used cars never a NEW car. I get to pick any car I want. I’m not sure if I’ll go for a Smart car, an HHR, or another mini van.
I do know that when I buy a new car it won’t be silver. I decided that this morning when I looked out my bedroom window and saw that all but two cars parked on our street were silver. There wasn’t a single open parking space out there so that’s a lot of silver cars.
My new car won’t be purple either–I don’t like purple.
When I buy a new car it will, hopefully, have enough room for a dog crate in the back. If I buy a van I’ll have them keep the rearmost seat. I pulled the rearmost seat out of the van I have a long time ago and have no use for one.
My old van won’t be traded in, it is going to go to the neighbor over at my MIL’s who helped G and I so much with the clearing and cleaning. She needs a car. All she’ll have to pay for is the title transfer.
I wish someone would hurry and buy the house.
When I buy a new car it’d better last for a long time since it will probably the only new car I buy.

Dang it, where did it go?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
(Thank you for eating my post WordPress. I shall attempt to recreate it.)
Life at Chez Doggonedmysteries is very exciting. The Curmudgeon went to bed around 9 tonight. The pups dashed to their crates, Gavin barked to have the doors close and covered around 7. Parrot dogs.
I am awake and working on a second draft of my post at 3:30 in the morning. WordPress ate my first draft…wow, high drama.

It’s black Friday–I’ll stay home
Posted by doggonedmysteries
If retail clerks refused to work the crazy hours and if people weren’t so greedy, there would be no such thing as Black Friday.
I worked retail for many years. Black Friday is the worst day of the year. I’m not sure when it started, but in my early retail years the day was like any other.
Greed is the only answer to the question, why do they do it?
Back when I bought Christmas presents, decorated, and in general, let the retail world dictate my December, I did manage to finish my shopping long before November and December rolled around.
Quite a few years ago, The Curmudgeon and I decided that if a holiday created too much pressure to allow one to enjoy it, why bother? It’s not as if the season were a favorite for either of us. Mostly it reminds us of lost family. We’ve both had too many family deaths at this time of year. I’d just as soon skip from here to mid February.
These days I only buy or make one ten-dollar gift for my dearest friend of 38 years for her celebration and because she loves this time of year.
The Curmudgeon and I buy things we want, when we want them, instead of waiting for a holiday to come around. We don’t decorate, I stopped baking ridiculous amounts of unneeded sweets, and we’ve found that we enjoy it this way.

And so today goes…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It’s Thanksgiving. The Curmudgeon and I are going to enjoy a lovely dinner of roast chicken (he won’t eat turkey), sage stuffing, gravy, Harvard beets, cranberry sauce, and we have a slice of cheesecake for each of us for dessert. Okay it isn’t a completely traditional dinner, but we aren’t your traditional family.
After dinner we’ll enjoy a movie marathon of some DVDs we bought lately and hadn’t had a chance to watch yet.
The Curmudgeon will fall asleep in his chair with Patty. Gavin will be snoring away in my chair with me. I will be thankful That I get to enjoy watching all three sleep.
There’s something to be said about a very small family. There’s no noise, no pressure, and no fighting. How thankful can I get? Plenty thankful.

I’m going to get my exercise…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I think I finally have all the Halloween decorations on the second floor ready to take to the attic to pack away until next year. I know, it’s the lazy way to do it. However, trudging two flights of stairs on many trips is not my idea of fun.
This way I can pile everything by the attic door and then haul it all up in as few trips as possible.
Since I don’t do Christmas decorations, I’m done with attic trips for the year.

Incentive helps
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The Curmudgeon carried the ladder upstairs yesterday. This was a hint for me to take down the light fixture at the top of the stairs. I’ve put this off for quite a while, but night before last the second light blew so I needed to replace both of them.
(Another reason I put it off was it was filthy from the leaky roof–which is now fixed.)
Therefore yesterday afternoon I went up the ladder, took down the glass fixture, washed it, replaced the two light bulbs with new energy-efficient light bulbs, and put up the clean glass fixture.
Oh my gosh, I forgot how bright that light was. Now I can see how dirty the stairs and hallway are…
I bet you know what I’ll be doing today.

Paper is to clutter as ….
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I can clean off my desk, I can clear the kitchen table, however, they never stay paper free. A single piece of paper becomes a magnet for many more. Once that first paper hits the table or desk, my clutter free area is doomed.
I swear the paper breeds faster than rabbits or mice. My recycling bin is always full.
Is there some sort of scientific phenomena that explains this occurence?
How do you tame your paper?

Fortune cookie wisdom
Posted by doggonedmysteries
“It’s amazing how much good you can do if you don’t care who gets the credit.”
Believe it or not that lovely gem of wisdom was in my fortune cookie tonight. It struck a chord with me. I know many people who climb atop the wall and crow about their accomplishments expecting pats on the back and plenty of ‘atta boys. They don’t impress me.
The people I admire the most are the ones who work hard, keep their heads down, and seldom take credit for their good works.
Sort of reminds me of many of our military men and women. Hey, remember to take a moment and thank a soldier the next time you see one.
Hugs all!
