You want drama? Take my yesterday, please!

The Curmudgeon collapsed on the back porch yesterday. For the life of me, I couldn’t get him on his feet. I ran over and got two of my neighbors to help him. This was all before my first cup of coffee, therefore I was cranky. I hate being cranky with him. I know it’s not his fault that these things happen.
I spent the rest of the day running back and forth doing whatever he needed to have done. If I cussed and babbled it was because of fear. I also apologized to him for doing so. It seemed as though I didn’t get a minute to rest when I’d be hopping up again to get something for him. He knows I love him but I’m sure I made him feel awful a couple of times where I was so tired I felt as though I couldn’t catch my breath. Better I cuss a bit than bottle all that fear and frustration inside.
I curse all those MS agencies and societies that claim they help. They don’t. If they did, I might have a few solutions on how to better deal with days like this. I’d have help for his bad days so I don’t end up back in the hospital. It seems that once MS goes into Secondary Progressive even the doctors tend to back away. Don’t give me sympathetic looks, don’t roll your eyes at me when I ask what’s available in the way of help, we aren’t a research project we are human beings at the ends our ropes.
Once The Curmudgeon settled into bed for the night, I poured a glass of Chocovine. It was a long chase but I finally caught my breath.
You all have a good one! I’m going to try.

Mother’s day
Posted by doggonedmysteries
My beautiful Mother. She’s gone five years now. Mom, I love you, I miss you and I wish you were here.
My father took this picture of her in the Philippines sometime in the early 50’s.
Five years…it doesn’t seem that long.
My phone number hasn’t changed in 38 years…and yet…
Well, those of you who know…
Know that my Mom and Dad are spinning in their graves.
Don’t tell anyone but Patty likes to have her teeth brushed
Posted by doggonedmysteries
After the last vet dental bill on Gavin, and the availability of a new doggie toothpaste at the vet’s office, Gavin and Patty get their teeth brushed every night. It’s funny to watch them.
Patty is first. She ducks her head down as low as possible, making me have to bend and reach, but if you look at the other end, her tail is wagging like crazy. Once I get her jaw in my hand, lift her lips, and start brushing her tail wags even faster. However, that’s not how I know she likes it.
Gavin is next. He ducks. I catch. I brush. Done. Except that every single time Patty comes over and tries to get a lick in on his teeth.
Hehehe! She likes the beef flavored doggie toothpaste.

It’s not mine…

The Curmudgeon had his doctor’s appointment yesterday. He was gone and back before I got out of bed. When I came downstairs my first question to him was, “Well, how did the appointment go?”
He replied, “I’m pregnant!”
After I finished giggling and caught my breath, which took quite a while, I said, “Oh? And what makes you say that?”
The doctor put him on prenatal vitamins for his anemia.

A new week
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I’m hoping that today I hear from my cardiologist. I’d really hate to have to wait all week to hear about what he thinks of the tests. My luck, if he does call today, he calls while I’m gone for my walk. Sometimes I really hate HIPPA, since they get so weird about giving any information to The Curmudgeon.
Yes, after an entire week of doctor appointments, I am more than a little happy to get back to taking my walk today.
The Curmudgeon’s blood tests came back and according to his neurologist he’s anemic. He has an appointment to see our family doctor later this week.
You all have a good one!

Friday is over isn’t it?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Not my favorite thing to hear when I first wake up is The Curmudgeon moaning and groaning. This is a sign of a very bad day. I trudged down the stairs to find him on his hands and knees wiping the floor and cabinets with a paper towel
“What happened?”
“The coffee pot is leaking all over the place.” He replied.
I walked over to the sink and picked up the pot. When I did I spotted a hole in it. “Um, maybe because there’s a hole in the pot. I’m betting you banged it…” I looked in the sink and sure enough I found some chips of glass. “Put a hole in it. Lovely. I’m guessing this means there’s no coffee?”
Those who know me know that this is me without coffee…
Therefore I walked over to G’s house to mooch a cup of coffee, but no one answered the door. ACK!
Then I decided to waste no more time and go buy a replacement carafe at Target. They didn’t have any, in fact I was told that the company no longer makes this particular carafe. Yikes!!!! I looked at all the coffee makers they had to offer and made a decision. I now have a new coffee maker that has an insulated stainless steel unbreakable coffee carafe.
I hugged my precious cargo to my chest and fled for the check out counter directly across from the Starbucks stand. As I swiped my charge card I yelled across the aisle to the Starbucks clerk, “Give me the largest darkest one you have, I’ll be right there!”
I left Target with a new coffee maker while happily sipping on a large cup of coffee. The day suddenly seemed brighter. Instead of heading directly home I stopped at the camera shop and picked up my CD of wedding pictures!!! Yes, the day improved rapidly.

Lovely day
Posted by doggonedmysteries
What a great day for walking! Annie and I made two circuits of the park. We can’t do that on days when G walks with us. G has had a knee replaced and once around the park is all she can handle before her other knee starts to kill her. She dreads it but knows that one of these days that one too needs replacing.
We saw a wonderful sight by the second foot bridge. An elderly Lab was tootling around (doing mini laps) in a small patch of deep water. His mom was standing by keeping watch while he was thoroughly enjoying himself. Two ducks nearby were unconcerned about his company.

It never gets easy
Posted by doggonedmysteries
On Friday the thirteenth in April of 2001 my baby sister breathed her last breath. A hole opened in my heart and has never healed. To have her joy, laughter, sense of humor, and smile leave this world forever was the cruelest thing of all.
I mourned her then. I mourn her now. Mary, it still feels like it was only yesterday that we spoke on the phone. I miss you. I love you.

Blustery day!

Winnie the Pooh: Happy “Winds-day”, Piglet.
Piglet: [being blown away] Well… it isn’t… very happy… f-for me.
Winnie the Pooh: Where are you going, Piglet?
Piglet: That’s what I’m asking myself, where?
[he is lifted into the air by a gust of wind] Piglet: W-Whoops! P-P-P-Pooh!
Winnie the Pooh: [grabbing Piglet’s scarf] And what do you think you will answer yourself?
It seemed like that sort of day here yesterday although it was Monday and not Windsday.
Even though the wind blew like crazy the broken branch in the Tulip Poplar is still stuck way up in the tree. I don’t do tall ladders so it may stay there until it rots away.
You all have a good one!

MS takes its daily toll
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Most days The Curmudgeon can barely take the dogs out and feed them in the morning. He insists that he do it. He is at his best in the mornings and his best is most people’s worst.
This won’t get better. We know it and work hard to accept it. His walking is poor at best. His balance sucks.
As the day goes on, he can do less and less. By one or two in the afternoon he MUST take a nap. It’s funny, the dogs have decided that they must take a nap then too. If I don’t close their crate doors and drop the covers down, they will sit in them and whine or Gavin will stand in front of me and bark until I do.
The Curmudgeon gets up around four and so do the pups. I take the pups out and then they vie for who gets to sit on The Curmudgeon. Usually Patty wins but Gavin does get there before her sometimes.
I think they use this to see how many times they can make The Curmudgeon laugh.
You all have a good one!
